Troubleshooting Access Issues: Clearing Your Browser Cache

What to do when things go wrong.

Clearing the Cache

Purpose: Your web browser cache can create login and web page malfunction from time to time.  The following steps are to instruct the user on how to clear their web cache in Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple’s Safari.

Google Chrome

  1. Click the button with the three dots in the top right and go to “More Tools”.
  2. At the top, select a "Time range".
  3. When selecting what to clear, make sure that at least "Browsing history",  “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files” are selected.  Then click “Clear data
  4. Close Google Chrome and reopen it.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the button  with the three dots in the top right, then click “Settings”.
  2. Select "Privacy, search, and services and go to "Clear browsing Data"
  3. Select "Choose what to clear".  Make sure that at least “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files” are selected. Then click “Clear now".
  4. Close Microsoft Edge and reopen it.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the three horizontal bars in the top right and click “Settings”.
  1. Select “Privacy & Security" on the left side and go to "Cookies and Site Data” in the middle of the page.
  1. Select "Clear Data ...".
  2. Remove the check mark in front of "Cookies and Site Data".
  3. With "Cached Web Content" checked, click the "Clear" button
  4. Close Mozilla Firefox and reopen it.

Safari

Safari for Mac

  1. Click the Safari menu, then Clear History...
  2. In the Clear field choose All History
  3. Click Clear History.

Safari for PC

  1. Click on the Settings (Gear) icon in the upper right corner of the browser..
  2. Click Reset Safari
  3. Select the items you wish to clear. (It is recommended to check all items).
  4. Click Reset.

Mobile Safari for iOS (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad)

To clear cache and cookies:

  1. From the home screen, Select Settings > Safari.
  2. At the bottom of Safari's settings screen, Select Clear cookies and data or Clear Cookies and Clear Cache.
  3. Confirm when prompted.

To clear history:

  1. From the home screen, tap Safari.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap the Bookmarks icon.
  3. In the lower left, tap Clear.
  4. Tap Clear History.
