Basic information about U.S.C. Title 17 Copyright Law particularly as it relates to higher education.

Copyright Law

Copyright was important enough to the founding fathers that it was included in the very first Article of the United States Constitution:

Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 states: "The Congress shall have Power ... To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries"

Later it was codified as the Copyright Law of the United States Title 17 of the United States Code.
